Saint Marie Among the Hurons 2003
It was a beautiful day, soft and warm, a sharp change from the previous few weeks of low teens. The terrain was great mix of fields, wooded copses and trails. It was perfect for la petite geurre.
The opposition was numerous and in great spirits. Their camaraderie and esprit de corps was great to see. It was refreshing to see a unit of companie franche speak French. The two groups of provincial rangers were joined by a section from the Scot's Grenadiers, despite the initial unfamiliarity the three units worked well together.
It was a day full of tacticals. Snowshoes and a good pair of bindings were a must. The final tally of objectives gained and won will be debated around taverns and alehouses for years to come.
Gary dit Le Chasseur Bento came into his own during the last tactical scenario in which, from a hidden position, eliminated numerous opponent. For his courage and sang froide Le Chasseur has earned the coveted Most Valuable Marksman award, and more importantly the admiration and gratitude of his section.
