Although this book deals with a Frenchman's contact with the Inuit in the early 20th century, the problems he faces are remarkably similar to those faced by Europeans in the Northeast during the 18th century. His descriptions of situations and cultural interactions are just about identical to journal entries from the 18th century, although much more detailed and written in contemporary language.
